When I need to think up the next scene of a story or to ponder the direction of a business product, I need my brain to get into a specific mode of thinking.

I have learned over the years that there are a handful of activities that almost inevitably kick my brain into that gear. Two of them are walking and driving. As long as I’m walking or driving for at least 20 minutes and am not interrupted by conversation or other interactions, then the ideas start to flow.

Often, the driving happens with the radio on, in which case my story scenarios begin to be shaped by the songs I hear. Emotions and character interactions are influenced by the mood and lyrics.

What kick-starts your creativity? When do you plan to initiate creativity mode again?

(If you don’t arrange for it… how do you think it’s going to happen?)
