There are three distinct versions of this project in the works:
- WordPress for Small Business
- WordPress for Authors
- WordPress for Artists
As you may guess, they are similar, but unique.
Many small business people haven’t even heard of WordPress, or they aren’t sure whether it’s truly appropriate for a business website. They have concerns and questions, and the bottom line is that WordPress will allow them to maintain their own small business website, which has been something of the holy grail of Web marketing since the start.
On the other hand, most authors have heard of WordPress and know that having a blog is a key part of publishing life in the Internet age. In my experience, they’re a determined bunch of people who just need some help getting started.
Artists are a special case, as the bulk of their expression is in images, and they need the ability to showcase galleries of their work. WordPress may meet some of their needs, but not always and not completely.
For a while I’ve played with this idea. I started putting things together and then stopped. I almost abandoned it. After all, there are plenty of resources out there for learning WordPress. Why should I add to the noise? But my own writer’s group convinced me (by the very fact that they still had so many questions, even after scouring the Web for answers — and by their reactions to my explanations) that what I have to add isn’t noise. It’s water in the desert.
