Series or Stand-Alone? How to tell if your story is a fling or a long-term commitment

New modes of publishing are opening up the opportunity for telling stories as a series of episodes, rather than requiring every story be a book-length novel. While some stories are great as a single shot book, others would be great in episodic form. Is your story more suited to a book or a series?

Engaging community around your story

Deviantart.com is running a very cool community story contest: http://techgnotic.deviantart.com/journal/Odyssey-Into-2012-272543956 Some day, when my stories have a following, I want to have a fan fic contest and run it something like this one! What fun!

NaNoWriMo – First Try

Well, last month (November 2011) I participated in NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. It was my first time, although I’ve thought about doing it for the past couple of years. The bad news is that I didn’t reach the 50,000 word goal. I got about 2,000 words of actual story Read more…

I don’t know what my working title is! Now I can’t write my novel!

You know how it is. Anything can become a reason to procrastinate. If you’re feeling stuck because you’re not sure what to call your novel (or your article or your website or your small business), don’t let it stop the wheels of progress! My philosophy on titles is this: 1) Read more…

About this site

Teddi Deppner

You probably met me somewhere -- at a conference, on Facebook, in a heated blog discussion. Welcome!

It's no secret I'm a change agent. The status quo is ever my arch-nemesis, which is why even my fiction challenges my characters (and my readers) to shifts in perspective.

This site is where I think out loud and track cool things I discover in my areas of interest (see the Categories list below).
